Food Safety and Quality Assurance Manager

GoodLeaf Farms is searching for an experienced Quality Assurance leader to oversee the QA Department. The Food Safety & Quality Assurance Manager will establish all QA processes and lead quality improvements company wide. This position will be based in Guelph, Ontario and will require travel to other farms in alignment with the growth of GoodLeaf Farms.

The Food Safety & QA Manager will be part of the senior leadership team and will be the ‘go-to’ person on all food safety and quality assurance matters. This is a hands-on position offering the successful candidate the opportunity to uniquely shape the QA department to be the finest industry leader.

The Food Safety & Quality Assurance Manager will be responsible for the following:

  • Develop a QA strategy that is aligned with the company’s commercial vision;

  • Communicate the QA impact on proposed product development plans;

  • Lead a team of QA professionals and ensure an effective work environment that is aligned with company culture;

  • Lead the on-going management of food safety programs and quality systems company-wide;

  • Review and update existing quality systems and recommend new ones as needed;

  • Prepare and update SOP’s and technical documentation in accordance with Quality Management programs;

  • Perform regular audits of existing processes and systems and propose recommendations;

  • Ensure compliance with HACCP system to meet regulatory requirements;

  • Lead the timely responses to Corrective Action Requests (CAR’s) from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) while maintaining positive relationships with all agency personnel;

  • Contribute to design and preventive measures/risk assessment of all products;

  • Recognize developments, anticipate key risks, and put robust measures in place to control risks;

  • Be concise and firm in supporting decisions to hold product, including preparation of required follow-up documentation and filing/reporting;

  • Ensure compliance of all QA programs, including governance focused on adherence, visibility, functionality, and effectiveness;

  • Collaborate with operations to ensure alignment in goals and objectives;

  • Other duties as determined by the needs of the business


Education and Qualifications:

  • Formal education in Quality Assurance or BSc or MSc in Food Science, Biology, Nutrition, or Chemistry;

  • Minimum 5 years experience in a QA leadership role;

  • Collaborative leader with the ability to create the perfect balance between QA and operations;

  • Life-long learner and a seeker of continuous improvement both for self and for the company;

  • Excellent written and communication skills with the ability to draft policies and communicate them effectively;

  • Ability to travel outside of Ontario as needed.
