About the Role:

Reporting to the Head Grower and working closely withthe production team, the Horticulture Technician will be responsible forensuring the health and productivity of our plants, maintaining and optimizingour growing system and provide guidance and assistance to our production teammembers in the area of horticulture. This role will ensure we continue to deliver a high-quality product toour consumers.

Responsibilities (but not limited to…):

Daily functions

·        Routinely inspect the quality of harvested product

·        Take photos of each crop as it is removed from the grow room and upload to a data storage system

·        Record all deviations in crop quality as they occur

·        Record all observations of crop quality

·        Assist with collecting and validating yield data

·        Maintain Horticulture systems within the mechanical room which include but are not limited to (filter replacement, filter advancement, sensor cleaning, fault correction)

·        Observe and monitor the seeding line to ensure seeding density, substrate placement and nutrients are being delivered accurately

·        Mixing fertilizers to maintain stock tanks at required volume.

Weekly functions

·        Complete testing on plant nutrients

·        Keep the horticulture lab neat and tidy

·        Collect samples and complete documentation as instructed by the Head Grower

·        Clean and maintain liquid storage tanks and associated systems

 

Health and safety / Food safety

·        Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following and adhering to all GoodLeaf Farms Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), provincial and company health and safety standards, and the company’s food quality and safety guidelines.

 

Other functions

·        Aid the Procurement Specialist in counting substrate, seeds, and other horticulture supplies

·        Provide research assistance to the Head Grower as needed

·        Assist with the writing of SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) as they relate to Horticulture

·        Assist with training new team members on horticulture functions

·        General farm assistance in the areas of harvest and seeding when required

·        Other duties and responsibilities as required

All other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Educational Requirements:

·       Technical Diploma in Plant Science or Horticulture (bachelor’s degree of Science is preferred)

·       Previous experience in a food manufacturing environment or agricultural practice considered an asset

·       Must be able to work 12-hour rotational shifts (7am-7pm), including weekends

·       Ability to prioritize the health & safety of oneself and others

·       Works well independently and as part of a team

·       Positive work attitude.

·       Excellent oral and written communication skills

·       Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment

·       Ability to lift safely up to 25kg.
