National Account Manager

About the Role:

Reporting to the VP, Sales, the National Account Manager will play a key role in driving growth and partnership across some of our most critical retail channels. You’ll manage national customer relationships, lead annual planning, and deliver commercial excellence across a dynamic portfolio. This is a highly visible role, accountable for executional rigor, strong financial acumen, and cross-functional collaboration to achieve sustainable, profitable growth.

What you'll do:

Strategic Planning & Execution

  • Develop and execute annual customer plans aligned with company and retailer objectives.
  • Lead joint business planning (JBP), assortment strategies, and promotional programs that maximize category and brand growth.
  • Manage trade investment with discipline and transparency, ensuring ROI targets are met or exceeded.
  • Use data and insights to inform decisions, optimize spend, and identify emerging opportunities.

Account Management & Customer Engagement

  • Own head-office relationships with key retail partners across critical national channels.
  • Negotiate programs, terms, and promotional events that drive mutual profitability and long-term partnership.
  • Ensure flawless execution through close collaboration with Marketing, Finance, Supply Chain, and Insights teams.
  • Monitor customer performance, analyze results, and adjust plans as needed to deliver consistent in-market excellence.

Growth & Innovation

  • Identify opportunities for new listings, innovation launches, and portfolio expansion.
  • Drive omni-channel execution, ensuring cohesive alignment between physical and digital retail environments.
  • Track category trends, competitor activity, and shopper insights to pro-actively shape strategies.

Collaboration & Team Contribution

  • Operate as a trusted commercial partner and role model within the Sales team.
  • Contribute to a culture of shared learning by exchanging best practices and supporting peers as needed.
  • Work cross-functionally to ensure clear communication, alignment, and accountability across teams.

Qualifications & Educational Requirements:

  • 7+ years of progressive account management or customerleadership experience in CPG or consumer goods.
  • Background in managing perishable or fast-moving categories is an asset, particularly those requiring agility in forecasting and execution.
  • Post-secondary education in Business, Commerce, or a related field.
  • Proven success managing head-office relationships with major retail partners in national or regional markets.
  • Strong understanding of P&L ownership, forecasting, trade spend management, and category dynamics.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Analytical thinker with the ability to translate insights into action and measurable growth.
  • Highly organized, adaptable, and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, and CRM or reporting tools.
