What we are looking for
The Director of Engineering will lead and manage our automation and mechanical engineering professionals across multiple facilities in Canada. This role is responsible for driving innovation, standardization, and operational excellence in engineering practices that support manufacturing, packaging, and facility infrastructure in a high-performance environment.=
The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in industrial automation, mechanical systems, and cross-functional leadership, with a passion for building scalable engineering solutions that improve efficiency, safety, and product quality.
What you will be doing
Strategic Leadership
Develop and execute the national engineering strategy aligned with corporate goals and operational needs.
Lead and mentor regional engineering managers, automation specialists, and mechanical engineers across all sites.
Champion a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Engineering Operations
Oversee the design, implementation, and optimization of automated systems, mechanical equipment, and production lines.
Ensure standardization of engineering practices, documentation, and project execution across all facilities.
Manage capital projects from concept through commissioning, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met.
Technical Oversight
Provide technical guidance on automation platforms (e.g., PLCs, SCADA, robotics) and mechanical systems (e.g., HVAC, conveyors, packaging machinery).
Evaluate and implement emerging technologies to enhance productivity and reduce downtime.
Ensure compliance with engineering codes, safety regulations, and industry best practices.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, and IT teams to align engineering initiatives with business objectives.
Support new product introductions and process changes with robust engineering solutions.
Collaborate with procurement and vendors to source and manage equipment and services.
People & Performance Management
Build and develop a high-performing engineering team through coaching, training, and succession planning.
Set clear performance goals and KPIs for engineering teams and monitor progress.
Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the engineering function.
Follows and comply with all GoodLeaf Farms, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Provincial and Company Health and Safety standards and Company Safe Quality Foods standards and guidelines.

Education and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field (Master’s degree or P.Eng. designation preferred).
Minimum 10 years of engineering leadership experience, including multi-site management in manufacturing or industrial environments.
Strong expertise in automation systems, mechanical design, and capital project execution.
Proven track record of leading cross-functional teams and delivering complex engineering projects.
Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Bilingual (English/French) is an asset.
