What we are looking for

The Director of Food Safety & Quality Assurance leads and oversees the food safety and quality programs across multiple manufacturing facilities in Canada. This role is responsible for ensuring that all products meet the highest standards of safety, regulatory compliance, and customer satisfaction. The Director will manage a team of Quality Managers and work closely with cross-functional leaders to drive a culture of quality and continuous improvement.

What you will be doing

Leadership & Strategy

  • Provide strategic direction and leadership to Quality Managers and FSQA teams across all Canadian facilities.

  • Develop and implement a unified food safety and quality strategy aligned with corporate goals and regulatory requirements.

  • Foster a proactive quality culture focused on prevention, accountability, and excellence.

Food Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure all facilities comply with Canadian food safety regulations (CFIA, Health Canada), GFSI standards (e.g., SQF, BRC), and customer-specific requirements.

  • Oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of HACCP plans, GMPs, allergen controls, sanitation programs, and traceability systems.

  • Lead internal and external audits, manage corrective actions, and ensure timely resolution of non-conformances.

Quality Systems & Performance

  • Standardize quality systems, documentation, and reporting across all sites.

  • Monitor and analyze quality KPIs, customer complaints, and product performance to identify trends and drive improvements.

  • Collaborate with R&D, Operations, and Supply Chain to support product launches, process changes, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Team Development & Collaboration

  • Mentor and develop Quality Managers and site-level FSQA teams, promoting professional growth and succession planning.

  • Facilitate cross-site knowledge sharing and best practice implementation.

  • Serve as the primary liaison for regulatory bodies, third-party auditors, and key customers on food safety and quality matters.

Travel Requirements:

  • Up to 20% travel across Canadian manufacturing sites.

Follows and comply with all GoodLeaf Farms, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Provincial and Company Health and Safety standards and Company Safe Quality Foods standards and guidelines.

All other duties as assigned

Education and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or related field (Master’s degree or certifications such as PCQI, SQF Practitioner, or HACCP Lead Auditor preferred).

  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in food safety and quality assurance, with at least 5 years in a multi-site leadership role.

  • Deep knowledge of Canadian food regulations, GFSI schemes, and quality management systems.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Bilingual (English/French) is a strong asset.
